Apple Dapples

Fall is unfolding…gently arriving and signaling our return indoors for good food and warmth, candle light and talks beside the fire: it is the time for home.

It reminds me of apples, apple picking, falling leavings and pumpkins too.

To welcome fall, I’m sharing my husbands iconic “Apple Dapple recipe”

He actually makes these every Sunday along with blueberry pancakes (pumpkin in the fall) and bacon!

They’re super simple to make. These are wonderful for breakfast with pancakes or eggs…

or a delish dinner side with chicken or pork!

Apple Dapples

Ingredients:

6 cups honey crisp apples, (highly recommend they be honey crisp) chopped into 1-1 1/2” chunks. (That’s about 5 medium or 3 large apples)

2–3 Tablespoons organic, unrefined coconut oil.

Cinnamon (plenty of it)

Instructions:

1. In a large skillet, melt coconut oil over medium-high heat.

2. When hot carefully add apples so they don’t splash.

3. Cover the surface of the apples with a generous sprinkling of cinnamon (don’t be shy here!)

4. Let apples sit undisturbed for about 5 minutes.

5. Stir and sprinkle again with cinnamon to get the apples that were underneath (a bit less than the first round).

6. Reduce heat and continue cooking until you reach your desired tenderness, being careful not to stir too much otherwise you’ll end up with more of an applesauce and less caramelizing.

Hope you love these! They’re sooo good…enjoy!
