Homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette: The Easy, Healthy Dressing You’ll Always Want on Hand

Writer: Mary WuerdemanMary Wuerdeman

Salads are one of the easiest ways to pack in nutrients, but let’s be honest—what makes or breaks a salad is the dressing. Unfortunately, most store-bought dressings are loaded with unhealthy oils, preservatives, and added sugars, turning what should be a nourishing meal into something far from it.

That’s why I love keeping this homemade balsamic vinaigrette on hand. It’s made with simple, real ingredients, and it’s so easy to throw together. Once you make your own, you’ll never want to go back to the bottled stuff again!

Why This Dressing Is a Staple in My Kitchen

1. It’s Made with Real, Quality Ingredients

Instead of inflammatory seed oils and artificial additives, this vinaigrette is built on heart-healthy extra virgin olive oil and high-quality balsamic vinegar, which both offer antioxidants and anti-inflammatory benefits.

2. It’s Quick & Easy to Make

All you need is a jar with a lid—just add the ingredients, shake, and you’re done. No whisking, no blending, no fuss.

3. It Makes Salad an Effortless Meal

Having a good dressing ready to go means you’re more likely to enjoy fresh greens regularly. A great dressing turns simple greens into something crave-worthy, making healthy choices feel easy.

Balsamic Vinaigrette Recipe

Ingredients:

• ½ cup olive oil

• ¼ cup balsamic vinegar

• 1 teaspoon honey (optional, see note below)

• 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

• 1 teaspoon onion powder

• 1 teaspoon garlic powder (or minced garlic)

• Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Add all ingredients to a jar with a tight-fitting lid.

2. Shake well until fully combined.

3. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.

4. Store in the fridge. Shake before each use.

Note: If you’re using a high-quality balsamic vinegar, the honey may not be necessary. The natural sweetness of the balsamic should shine through on its own!

Ways to Use This Balsamic Vinaigrette

• Drizzle over leafy greens with nuts, cheese, and fresh fruit for a quick, flavorful salad.

• Toss with roasted vegetables to enhance their natural sweetness.

• Use as a marinade for grilled chicken, salmon, or tofu.

• Stir into cooked grains like quinoa or farro for a simple, delicious side dish.

This balsamic vinaigrette is one of those simple wellness hacks that makes healthy eating easier and more enjoyable. Keeping it stocked in your fridge means you’re always just seconds away from a delicious, nourishing meal.
